| Afro-American Alumni Association Awards & Recognition Dinner - October 26, 2002 |

Over 150 students, faculty and friends attend the Second Annual Student Recognition and Alumni Awards dinner that was held in the Rondileau Campus Center Ballroom. Dr. J. Keith Motley was the master of ceremonies. Keith is currently Dean of Student Services at Northeastern University. He is very involved in the greater Boston community and is the founder and director of Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts. Mr. Nanzetta Merriman '78 was the recipient of the 2002 Afro-American Outstanding Alumnus Award. Mr. Merriman is the Director of Minority Academic Achievement Initiatives in the Framingham Public Schools. As the Director, he coordinates and supervises activities relating to the district's efforts to reduce the achievement gap between Latino and African American students and their white counterparts. He also teaches a graduate level course to teachers about race and racism in the public schools. The following were presented awards for their achievements. Mrs. Jacqueline Henry, Mrs. Rosa Gaskins and Ms. Lynne Payson were also recognized for their outstanding support of the organization. |

| Jerrol J. Toledo 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament |

Jerrol Toledo, a 20-year-old Bridgewater State College student, died in
his sleep on March 15, 2001. BSC students, led by members of the
African-American Society and the M.I.B, are planning to honor Jerrol's
memory by developing a memorial scholarship for deserving students. |

Gospel Extravaganza - February 23, 2002 |

On Saturday, February 23, 2002 the Afro-American Alumni Association sponsored its fourth annual Gospel Extravaganza at the Catholic Center. There were approximately 150-200 people in attendance who witnessed a night of praise to God. The program showcased such wonderful rendition by Morning Star Mass Choir, Ebenezer Mass Choir, Love Divine, the BSC Gospel Choir, Lionel and Leslie and Joanne Landers. The program started at 6:00 p.m. and lasted until 10:00 p.m. It was a wonderful event and one that will be remembered for a long time. |
| Kenneth Meeks Presentation - February 12, 2002 |
| Mr. Kenneth Meeks, Managing Editor at Black Enterprise Magazine and
author of Driving While Black, spoke on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 from
3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Moakley Center Auditorium. Meeks discussed in detail the evils of racial profiling before an audience of more than 100 faculty, staff and students. Students had an opportunity to talk about their experiences with police departments and how racial profiling impacted them as well as their loved ones. It was a positive learning experience for all of those in attendance. Tapes were made of Meeks' presentation for those who are interested in learning more about the police officers and racial profiling. Mr. Meeks was brought to Bridgewater State College by the Afro-American Alumni Association, the Campus Climate Action Group, The Campus Police Department and the Sociology Department. |
