Faculty Learning Community
In 2010 and 2011 the Office of Teaching & Learning hosted the BSU Teacher Scholar Institutes. In 2010 one of the pedagogical tracks focused on "Culturally Inclusive Pedagogies"; in 2011 "Engaged Pedagogies, Curriculum and Practices: Race, Ethnicity and Gender" was offered as a pedagogical track. Participants in these tracks stated that this work and collaboration across disciplines should continue throughout the academic year. For 2011-12, we are again inviting Summer Institute to sit together again and continue our rich discussions as a faculty learning community.
One of our 2010 participants who has participated for the past year in a faculty learning community said, "From our Summer Institute and faculty learning community experience, I have learned how to work individually and collaboratively within team settings to accomplish mutual goals. I believe our multi-disciplinary and diverse backgrounds in academic settings will help us work effectively to consolidate and further develop faculty learning communities on the BSU campus."
Colleagues who attended the 2010 and 2011 culturally inclusive pedagogy track of the summer institutes are meeting in the faculty learning community to share our successes and difficulties in the classroom as we deal with issues of diversity and inclusion. We are able to share additional strategies, and discuss our questions about the work. And just as importantly, we have the opportunity to continue to support one another in our work.
