In the fall of 2008,
Bridgewater State University (BSU) was awarded a grant by the
Nellie Mae Education Foundation to support
initiatives on campus
aimed at improving student success for
underserved students
at the university. The award was made as part of the Foundation's
multi-year, regional initiative,
Project Compass.
Following a year of planning activities, Project Compass launched its implementation phase in 2008. BSU and the other three funded institutions (Eastern Connecticut State University (Willimantic, CT); Lyndon State College (Lyndonville, VT); and the University of Maine at Presque Isle (Presque Isle, ME)) may each receive up to four years of implementation funding from the Foundation.
Project Compass is administered by the New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE). NERCHE serves as the intermediary between the Foundation and each of the four grantee institutions. Staff of NERCHE convene regular grantee meetings and also provide technical assistance to the funded institutions.
