MID - CAREER FACULTY/LIBRARIAN LUNCHEON:
"Tenured and Promoted: What's Next?"
Friday 26 March, 12 - 2 PM, Dunn Conference Suite Room A

In academe, we work hard to reach a series of goals: a graduate degree, full-time employment, tenure, promotion.  But once we pass these milestones, many of us find ourselves wondering, "What's next?"  Should I focus my energy on research, perhaps start a new scholarly project?  How can I do that while teaching 12 credits, working on committees, and tending to my personal life?  Perhaps I should concentrate on new strategies and techniques for teaching.  This feels like a daunting challenge - and do I really want to make changes to my pedagogy?  Maybe I should try a new type of college service.  What if I feel disconnected from the many campus initiatives and activities?

The Faculty Advocacy Network (FAN), the CART Research Fellow and the Office of Teaching and Learning invite you to join your colleagues for lunch on Friday, March 26, 12 - 2PM (Dunn A) to discuss these and other questions.  We will hear from mid-career BSC colleagues (Rita Miller, Peter Saccocia, Tammy King, and David Almeida) who have begun taking their own next steps, and explore the following issues in small group conversations:  Which career paths do we find most appealing?  How can we prioritize and start working toward our goals? What kind of resources and support might we need to reach those goals?

This luncheon provides an opportunity for faculty and librarians to learn about various mid-career options and to form ideas for taking "the next step" in their careers.

FACULTY/LIBRARIAN WORKSHOP:
Teaching Every Student: Second Language Students at BSC
Monday 12 April, 12:00 - 1:45, Dunn Conference Room B

Facilitators:  Drs. Julia Stakhnevich and Michelle Cox

As faculty at BSC, we serve an increasingly bi- and multi-lingual student population.  Yet many of us worry that our lack of expertise with second-language learners impedes our teaching effectiveness.  In this workshop, BSC faculty who work with ESL populations will share their experiences, present information about bilingual students at BSC, and discuss how research informs their teaching practices at BSC. Faculty participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss pedagogical approaches that are both effective and inclusive of bilingual students

A light lunch will be served.
