Teaching for Inclusive Excellence (T.I.E.) Initiative
In order to advance the work at BSC in culturally inclusive pedagogies and other practices in higher education, the Office of Teaching and Learning and the Office of Institutional Diversity sustain the T.I.E. Initiative. T.I.E. Facilitators (listed below) provide discipline-specific collegial support, information and skill building opportunities regarding issues of diversity, inclusion, and globalization as they relate to pedagogy, scholarship and practice. The Facilitators work with Dr. Ann Brunjes, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Sabrina Gentlewarrior, Faculty Associate in the Office of Institutional Diversity, to create cognate-specific programming focused on cultural inclusion.
T.I.E.'s objective is to remove the barriers that block faculty and students "from using the full range of their competencies and skills and is linked" with faculty and students' "ability to fully and effectively contribute" in the classroom and world (Stewart, Crary and Humberd, 2008, p. 375). The T.I.E. initiative was developed in response to requests from individual faculty for more discipline-specific programming around cultural inclusion.
Please take the T.I.E. survey!
To create discipline-specific programs, we would like to identify BSC's current practices. We hope that you will take a few minutes to answer some questions regarding culturally inclusive teaching.
