Urban Plunge @BSU: 2011

Urban Plunge is a Community Service Center signature program that gives new students the opportunity to work together on community service projects which focus on poverty, young children and the environment in Southeastern MA. Transportation and lunch will be provided. We will leave promptly from the Clock Tower on the East Side of campus. Please wear closed toed shoes (no flip-flops or sandals) for all service projects.

For a child growing up in a poor or low-income family, homelessness, safety, food, health, education, basic essentials, engagement and well-being are more than just words. Gifts to Give connects these kids with what they need. They are about leveraging existing resources and banding together to build a pathway of service, caring and giving for all our children. Volunteers may sort donations and “shop” for young children in need.

The mission of the Soule Homestead Education Center is to support and maintain a community based nonprofit education center for the benefit of area schools and the general public while preserving and enhancing the historic Soule Homestead. Hands on learning opportunities include environmental programs, organic farming activities, traditional crafts and cultural events. Volunteers will assist with its annual Harvest Fair and Joe Davies Folk Festival.

Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons (C2C) is an innovative nonprofit that provides, free of charge, disadvantaged children with the essential items that all kids need in order to flourish. Volunteers may sort donations at The Giving Factory and “shop” for those essential items for young children in need.

Zoo New England's mission is to inspire people to protect and sustain the natural world for future generations by creating fun and engaging experiences that integrate wildlife and conservation programs, research, and education. Volunteers may assist with animal care, education programs and grounds maintenance.

The Greater Boston Food Bank distributes more than 34 million pounds of food and grocery products annually to approximately 550 member hunger-relief agencies and 30 food bank direct service programs throughout eastern MA in a dedicated partnership to end hunger in our region. Volunteers work in the warehouse, inspecting, sorting, and repacking donated food and grocery products.
