Bridgewater is one of a select few American colleges that allows students to study Irish traditional music in a performance environment. The group uses a combination of aural and written approaches to learn a variety of traditional dance tunes (Jigs, Reels, Hornpipes, Polkas, etc.). Students learn standard repertoire that they can then take with them to any setting where Irish music is played. The tunes are presented in a straightforward fashion, and then augmented with traditional ornamentation and phrasing for an authentic feeling.
The Traditional Irish Music Ensemble is open to anyone in the Bridgewater community (students, faculty, staff) and includes players of all levels.
